Sullivan DA expected to move out of courthouse basement

Crowded courthouse

MONTICELLO – Sullivan County Government is working with the state to develop more courtroom and related space in Monticello.

The courthouse on Broadway is bulging at the seams with the district attorney’s office housed for years in the basement.

That could all change in the months ahead.

County Manager Joshua Potosek said they are working on a plan to reconfigure the courthouse.

“We have had dialogue and worked with them on a plan to create another courtroom, and part of that is getting our district attorney out of the basement of the court building, which then frees up a lot of space in that building and we are negotiating a space to put him in a private space in the Village of Monticello right now,” Potosek said.

The DA could be moved later this year to a new facility near the courthouse.
