MAHOPAC – The athletic field at Mahopac High School was covered with more than 9,000 plastic eggs that were gobbled up in minutes by some 500 boys and girls during Saturday’s Carmel Recreation Department’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.

At 12 noon, a horn sounded and the boys and girls charged onto the gridiron and swooped up the eggs. Mahopac Superintendent of Schools Anthony DiCarlo said the onslaught resembled a vacuum cleaner. “The eggs were gone in a matter of minutes.”

DiCarlo and Carmel Supervisor Ken Schmitt both congratulated the recreation department for keeping the tradition alive for many years.

Schmitt said it was fantastic to see “so many children and their parents and grandparents in attendance,” to which DiCarlo added: “Wholesome family entertainment in a simple way makes for stronger communities.”

Kids had an equally as exciting time during the Wappinger Easter Egg Hunt, also held Saturday.
