Conservative drops short-lived Dutchess executive campaign

POUGHKEEPSIE – Conservative Dutchess County executive candidate Terri Sheehan, who announced her campaign for county executive just two weeks ago, is ending it.  She has pulled out of the race, leaving incumbent Republican Marcus Molinaro to face only Democrat Joseph Ruggiero.

County Republican Chairman Michael McCormick said Molinaro is “committed to the shared conservative values and upholding those same principles.”

McCormick said he spent the past two weeks speaking with state Conservative Party leadership, representatives from the campaigns of Sheehan and Molinaro. “The simple conclusion was that Marc Molinaro is certainly the best choice for county executive, and deserves the full support of the Conservative and Republican parties,” McCormick said.

Meanwhile, Ruggiero announced on Tuesday that his campaign is formally underway.

“With so much now at stake, Dutchess County needs an executive with a hands-on approach to leadership,” the former executive director of the New York State Bridge authority said. With my broad experience in the county and state, I will be ready to face the many challenges ahead while also working with residents and stakeholders to ensure a more sustainable and prosperous future for all.”
