Stewart-Cousins, Carlucci fight off challenges


NYACK – Democratic State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins beat back a party challenge by Westchester County Legislator Virginia Perez to retain her party line for the 35th State Senate seat in the November election.

Stewart-Cousins polled 23,647 votes to Perez’s 5,121 with all but five districts tallied late Thursday night.

Across the Hudson River in Rockland County, a much closer contest. Senator David Carlucci defeated Julie Goldberg, polling 12,320 votes to her 10,539.

In the 40th State Senate District Democratic primary, Peter Harckham secured 11,116 votes to Robert Keston’s 9,579.
