Figueroa defeats VanBlarcum for Democratic Ulster sheriff line

KINGSTON – Juan Figueroa defeated incumbent Ulster County Sheriff Paul VanBlarcum in the Democratic primary election by a huge 13,119 to 2,885 vote margin.

VanBlarcum, who is a registered Democrat, was shunned by the party for some of his conservative stances.

The two men will face each other in November. VanBlarcum will be running on the Republican and Conservative lines.

Democrat leadership was furious when VanBlarcum recently sent out a mailer saying he was endorsed by the Democratic Committee. They said that was a mistruth, but VanBlarcum said all he was noting was that he had been endorsed by the party four previous times.
