KINGSTON – All of Ulster County buses in the Ulster County Area Transit system now has free Wi-Fi for riders.

Whether people are riding to work, school, visiting or shopping, they are now able to surf the Internet, text and check their email.

County Transportation Director Carol Hargrove said UCAT scored among the top two percent of bus services by the Federal Transit Authority and this new amenity, the first in the Ulster-Dutchess-Orange County area, adds to conveniences available.

County Executive Michael Hein also noted the new service has another use.

“In case of emergency, we now have the ability to be able to move one of our buses to a community and create free Wi-Fi hotspots,” Hein said.

UCAT operates 17 fixed route buses and five paratransit buses across the county.
