New Rochelle fire chief appointed

NEW ROCHELLE – Andrew Sandor, the interim fire chief for the last few months, has been named permanent chief on the New Rochelle City Fire Department. He was appointed in late June to replace Chief Lou DiMeglio, who retired after 45 years of service.

Sandor, a 22-year veteran of the New Rochelle department, rose through the ranks since he was hired as a probationary firefighter in 1996.

City Manager Charles Strome III, who appointed Sandor, said he is “confident he will continue and enhance the reputation” of the department.

Sandor was officially promoted to chief effective September 1.
