Investigation continues into shooting deaths of two Newburgh men

NEWBURGH – Two Newburgh residents were shot and killed and a third person was wounded in a late Saturday night shooting in the City of Newburgh.  Police continue to investigate.

City Police identified the victims as Alexis Camacho, 35, and Antwan Thomas, 28. A third person was shot, but was treated and released at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital.

The shootings occurred along Liberty Street near Gidney Avenue and Clinton Street about a block from Mount Saint Mary College.

A large group of people gathered at the St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital emergency room when the wounded person was taken there.

Anyone with information is urged to call Newburgh City Police at 845-561-3131. Callers can remain anonymous.

The State Police Major Crimes Unit and Orange County District Attorney’s Office are investigating along with city police.
