(Photo: Mark Lieb, Rockland Video Productions)

NEWBURGH – A tractor-trailer crash on the southbound Thruway just north of exit 17 in the Cronomer Valley section of the Town of Newburgh late Monday afternoon shut down traffic on the superhighway.

One trailer ended up on top of another.

Fire and EMS personnel were on the scene and traffic was diverted from the highway at exit 18 southbound. A medivac helicopter flew in to transport injured persons to the hospital.

A large crane was brought in to separate the trailers. It wasn’t until after 10:30 p.m. that the southbound lanes reopened.
