Maybrook man sentenced to prison for selling fatal drugs

GOSHEN – A Maybrook man was sentenced to eight years in state prison and three years of post-release supervision in connection with his selling heroin to a 24-year-old Maybrook woman who died as the result of a possible drug overdose on January 26.

On March 22 Jay Pagan, 32, pled guilty to criminal sale of a controlled substance. At the time he pled guilty, Pagan admitted that he sold heroin to the woman at his Maybrook home.

He was sentenced on Tuesday by Orange County Court Judge Craig Stephen Brown.

“This defendant deserved the state prison sentence that we recommended and which the judge imposed,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “Drug dealers who sell narcotics that result in someone’s death from an overdose must be held accountable for their actions.”

Hoovler said there were 88 suspected overdose fatalities in Orange County in 2017.
