NEW YORK – With the demise of former state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman over allegations of sex abuse, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney’s name has surfaced as a possible contender for the post.

A source told Mid-Hudson News that the Democratic lawmaker is exploring a possible run for the state post. He has been making phone calls to assess interest by party leaders, the source said.

Maloney is an attorney who has worked for the government in both Washington and Albany.

The state Democratic nominating convention is two weeks away and it is expected a candidate for the attorney general’s slot would be solidified then.
