Newburgh Habitat women spend week rebuilding home

NEWBURGH – Some 50 to 60 women from all walks of life are participating this week in the annual Women Build house project, the eighth one for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh.

They are completing a gut-rehab on the home at 15½ Overlook Place in the City of Newburgh, which will be purchased by a local woman, Maria and her mom. (Habitat does not release new homeowners’ last names.)

Newburgh Habitat Executive Director Cathy Collins said women are active participants in their rebuild program all year-long.

“With Habitat International, they do a National Women Build Week every year and that is usually all that most affiliates do,” Collins said. “We are very unique that we have such a strong crew of incredible women that build with us throughout the year and actually build houses, so when I say we are doing our eighth house, they built almost 10 percent of our homes.”

This latest house will be dedicated this weekend.  Collins said the new owners should be able to move in this July or August.
