Man injured in Stewart Forest snowmobile accident

NEW WINDSOR – A Carmel man was injured when the snowmobile he was operating struck a small downed tree on Weed Road inside Stewart State Forest in New Windsor.

A State Department of Environmental Conservation spokeswoman said William McPhilomy was ejected from the sled and suffered a head injury in the 7 p.m. incident on March 8. He was flown to Westchester Medical Center.

DEC forest rangers and local agencies including the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, New Windsor Police and Ambulance Corps, Coldenham Fire Department and Rock Tavern SnoRiders, responded to the scene.
