One dead in three-car Route 6 crash

WOODBURY – A three-car crash on Route 6 a mile west of the Long Mountain Circle has claimed the life of an Ozone Park woman.

State Police said the incident occurred around 1:10 p.m. on Saturday when a Hyundai driven by Loreal Maldinaldo, 28, of Ozone Park was westbound and crossed into the eastbound lane, striking a van head-on. A Chevrolet going west struck the van as it came to a stop in the westbound lane.

The Hyundai caught fire, but a passerby rescued the three occupants before the fire spread.

Maldinaldo died at the scene.  Two passengers in her car, a 13-year-old girl and a 21-year-old man, were transported to Westchester Medical Center in critical condition.

The van driver, Nickelson Moreau, 36, of Nanuet, and his passenger, were taken to Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill where they were both listed in critical condition, police said.

No one in the Chevrolet was injured.

Route 6 was closed for four hours.
