Japanese company explores flights from Stewart

STEWART AIRPORT – Direct flights between Stewart International Airport and Japan could be in the offing.

Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus told Mid-Hudson News that preliminary discussions have been held between officials at Stewart and the Mitsubishi Corporation about that subject.

“They have a sister airport to Stewart, which is about an hour bullet train ride outside of Tokyo and we had very preliminary conversations about doing the same thing here, having their regional airport fly into our regional airport at a cost savings to Japanese and American tourists,” Neuhaus said.

Stewart’s first direct, non-stop European service on Norwegian Air is a year old and has been very successful.  Stewart officials continually pitch the Newburgh area facility to other airlines for additional service.
