Free boater safety class offered

MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol Unit will host a one-day New York State Boater's Safety Course on Saturday June 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the White Lake Fire Department, 1596 State Route 17B in White Lake.

 Anyone born after May 1, 1996 is now required to pass an approved course in boater education in order to operate a motorboat in New York State. All operators of personal watercraft (jet skis/wave runners) must possess the boater safety certificate and be at least 14 years old.

You must be at least 10 years old to attend and must pass a written test at the end of the session.

Seating for the class is limited and pre-registration is required. There is no charge for the course. New York State charges a $10fee for the boater’s certificate which does not expire. The fee is waived for students less than 18 years old.
