Woodbury man pleads guilty to armed robberies

GOSHEN –A Woodbury man faces up to 13 years in state prison when sentenced in July in connection with his guilty plea to two counts of armed robbery for holding up three stores in Monroe between December 2016 and December 2017.

John Elliott, 30, pled guilty before Orange County Court Judge William DeProspo on Wednesday.

The prosecution alleged that while armed with a gun, he robbed employees of Charming Charlie’s women’s store in Monroe on December 23, 2016, making off with over $900. On February 14, 2017, he robbed the Edible Arrangements store in Monroe, taking over $1,300 in cash. He was also charged with robbing Sallies Beauty Supplies in Monroe, stealing some $300.

“People are entitled to feel secure in their places of business as well as in their homes, and people who violate that security deserve to be punished” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “This defendant violated that security, not only at gunpoint or under the threat of a gun, but multiple times. Orange County’s citizens can feel just a bit safer while the defendant is in custody for more than the next decade.”
