STANFORDVILLE – Police continue to investigate why an SUV ran into a house near the intersection of Bulls Head Road and Route 82 in Stanfordville late Monday night.

The two front seat passengers, according to a source, a husband and wife in their 40s who lived nearby, were pronounced dead at the scene. A rear seat passenger, said to have been the 35-year-old cousin of the wife, died at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, trooper said.

The sole occupant of the house escaped uninjured.

According to the source, the driver appears to have lost control, struck a utility pole and crashed into the house.

The Stanford Fire Department extinguished the fire.

State Police and the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Unit are investigating the cause of the crash that involved downed power lines. Route 82 was closed to traffic.

The names of the deceased have not been released.
