Middletown section of Heritage Trail to move forward

MIDDLETOWN – A deal has been struck to fund $600,000 needed to replace a culvert pipe under a portion of the future Heritage Trail extension in Middletown. That has been an issue that has hung up the project.

Mayor Joseph DeStefano said city officials have sat down with Orange County leaders and come up with a way to pay for the work.

“Assemblywoman Gunther has already contributed $200,000 through a multi-modal program,” the mayor said. “The city and the county will each be throwing in $100,000 at this point and we are hoping the county executive reaches out to Senator Bonacic to see if he can hit the state coffers for the additional $200,000.”

If that additional money cannot be secured from Albany, DeStefano said other alternatives will have to be explored.
