MIDDLETOWN – A car being chased by Middletown Police early this morning crashed into a house on Sterling Street with an unconfirmed report at the scene that the driver was killed.

Witnesses said that around 12:30 a.m., they saw a Middletown Police car chasing a black Lexus on Fulton Street in the city. The chase crossed Academy Avenue and onto Sterling Street.

Witnesses said the car went up on the sidewalk and crashed into the house at 8 Sterling Street. The crash took down the porch overhang and the car could be seen resting up against the damaged house.

Sterling Street was blocked off with crime scene tape for several hours.

State Police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office assisted Middletown City Police during the investigation.
