Maloney briefs business people on Middle East fact-finding

Maloney: "I cannot give you any guarantees"

MONTGOMERY – Just back from a Christmas week congressional fact-finding tour to Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) discussed what he saw with Orange County Chamber of Commerce members on Friday.

Maloney spent well over an hour discussing his meetings with America’s fighting forces, military leaders and government officials in those countries.

He said the war against terrorism is continuing in Iraq and Afghanistan with domestic forces assuming much of the effort.

“I cannot give you any guarantees, but what I can tell you is we are keeping the lid on in both places, it’s costing some money. We aren’t taking a lot of casualties thank God. The local forces are doing most of the fighting and they dying and if we can make progress under that model, then it is something we should keep supporting.”

Maloney said the war in the Middle East is going to be “decades long.”
