Cornwall man charged with stealing heavy equipment from business

WASHINGTONVILLE – A Cornwall man, who was found in a vehicle on Washingtonville village property, has been arrested.

On Tuesday, January 9 Village Police found Michael Donofrio, 27, asleep behind the wheel of a pickup truck and trailer that were stuck in mud.  He told police he had pulled onto the property by mistake as he was trying to turn around and got stuck.

Officers located a loaded .22 caliber rifle inside the truck along with drug paraphernalia. He was charged as a result with criminal trespass, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of drugs, all as misdemeanors.

Later that day police confirmed that the pull-behind trail Donofrio had with his truck was stolen from a business in the Town of Wallkill.

When Washingtonville officers went to speak with him at his home, they found a front-end loader that was also stolen from the same Wallkill business.

Donofrio was then charged with two counts of felony criminal possession of stolen property.
