Teen suspect in in New Rochelle stabbing death surrenders

NEW ROCHELLE – A suspect in the stabbing death of a teen girl in New Rochelle on Wednesday is in custody after surrendering to police on Thursday.

Police said the victim, Valaree Schwab, 16, was at the Dunkin Donuts at 646 North Avenue around 12:20 p.m. when a confrontation occurred between five or six other boys and girls a Schwab.

Police say during that incident, a girl, Z’Inah Brown, 16, of Yonkers stabbed the victim twice in the left side of her torso with what appears to be a steak knife. The group then fled.  Schwab was rushed to the hospital where she died.

Brown reportedly surrendered early Thursday afternoon, after her identity was publicized.
