Poughkeepsie man found injured in his home dies

POUGHKEEPSIE – Police in the City of Poughkeepsie are investigating how a 68-year-old man sustained serious injuries in his home on January 2. He died in the hospital on Tuesday, January 9.

Police were asked to check on the welfare of the man who lived at 2 Wantaugh Avenue after family members were unable to contact him for several days.

The man, whose name was not immediately made public, was transported by ambulance to MidHudson Regional Hospital where he underwent brain surgery and was put into a medically induced coma.

City Police said he died this Tuesday. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Anyone who may have information about the man between Saturday, December 30 and January 2 is asked to call the Poughkeepsie City Police tips line at 845-451-7577.

Police say there is no current threat to public safety.
