One killed in Route 32 crash

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – The driver of an SUV was killed when the vehicle slammed into the back of a garbage truck on Route 32 (North Plank Road) near the intersection of Paffendorf Drive in the Cronomer Valley section of the Town of Newburgh.

Town Police said the 11 a.m. Saturday accident occurred as the SUV was eastbound on Route 32 and struck the truck from behind. The truck had turned right from Paffendorf onto eastbound Route 32, police said.

The driver of the SUV died at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital.

The identities of those involved are being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Town of Newburgh Police were assisted at the scene by the Cronomer Valley Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Services and Newburgh EMS.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Newburgh Town Police detectives at 845-564-1100.
