New Rochelle school board names head of new task force to reduce violence

NEW ROCHELLE – Following three violent incidents involving students, including a fatal stabbing, at or around New Rochelle High School last month, the board of education named a chairman to head a new independent Task Force on Reducing Violence in the Lives of Children and Youth.

Dr. Jonathan Brice, an education expert with 25 years of experience, including with the US Department of Education, will lead the effort.

The school board and the city are now seeking members to serve on the task force, which will examine how conditions, policies and practices of the district and city impact student safety on and off the high school campus.

It will make recommendations on how to reduce bullying and violence in the lives of children and youth; ensure a safe, nurturing learning environment; and strengthen the safety of New Rochelle schools and the community.
