Man surrenders after threatening to stab cops, burn house down

MAHOPAC – A joint effort by the Carmel Police Department and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office led to a peaceful resolution to a standoff by a man who barricaded himself in his home on Monday and threatened to stab any officers who approached and then threatened to burn the house down.

After an hour-long telephone call, a lead negotiator persuaded the man to surrender peacefully.  He was transported to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

No injuries were reported.
