Yonkers man, who ran down, killed teen, arraigned

WHITE PLAINS – A Yonkers man, who drove up onto a sidewalk, striking a youth who later died, was arraigned on Wednesday. Joel Thompson, who was 22 at the time, was charged with murder in the death of Madysen Denman, 16, of Yonkers and two counts of attempted murder.

On Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at about 9:40 a.m., Yonkers Police officers were responding to reports of a dispute on Nepperhan Avenue at Ashburton Avenue when they were advised that a vehicle appeared to have intentionally drove onto the sidewalk. Officers found Denman on the ground. She was later pronounced dead. Two others were injured.

Thompson, who fled, was apprehended a short time later.  If convicted, he faces up to 25 years to life in state prison on the murder charge and up to 25 years in prison for each of the two attempted murder charges.

He remains in the Westchester County Jail.
