KIAMESHA LAKE –Among the first to come through the doors when Resorts World Catskills opened this morning were people from as far away as Massachusetts and as close to home as Southern Ulster County..

Dominick Polizzi and Denise Barley drove over from Marlboro. They have been coming to the Empire Resorts' sister facility at Monticello Casino and Raceway for years and couldn't wait to come through the doors of the new casino. "We're excited," said Polizzi.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled at 11:00. The facility, with over 150 live table games and 2,150 slot machines, is the cornerstone of a large-scale resort destination in Kiamesha Lake.

Resorts World Catskills includes an 18-story hotel and entertainment complex, fine dining, a 2,500-seat event center, indoor pools, a spa and fitness center.

Owned by Empire Resorts, the same company that owns and operates the Monticello Casino and Raceway in nearby Monticello, the new facility is adjacent to a large indoor waterpark that is under construction.

Resorts World Catskills is expected to draw visitors from the greater New York metropolitan area and from around the world.
