Outdoor café live music renewed for another year in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN – Outdoor live music at cafés in Middletown will be allowed for another year. The common council gave its approval for the second year of the entertainment.

Mayor Joseph DeStefano said on Wednesday that each year the approval sunsets.

“In case we have problems and cannot work them out then we can reserve the right not to renew all permits,” the mayor said. “Last year it was successful from the sense that we didn’t have many problems so we will continue to monitor it over the next couple of years, but each year the law will have a sunset clause with the common council at that time will have to renew in order for the reissuance for the following year.”

The issue of outdoor live music initially drew some criticism from neighbors to one of the cafés.
