Wawayanda man charged with impersonating a cop


WAWAYANDA – A local man was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer.

Christopher Kirkpatrick, 27, of Wawayanda was westbound on Interstate 84 in Wawayanda when he stopped a motorist and identified himself as both an off-duty Rockland County police officer and Poughkeepsie police officer.

He was driving a green Ford 150 pickup truck at the time of the incident.

Kirkpatrick was in possession of a portable police radio, handcuffs and white LED strobe lights attached to the visor of his vehicle.  He was charged with felony criminal impersonation and was released on an appearance ticket returnable to town court.

Anyone else experiencing a similar incident is asked to call the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at State Police in the Town of Wallkill at 845-344-5353.
