Hayes locks up Dutchess Surrogate’s Court judgeship

POUGHKEEPSIE – After weeks of counting absentee ballots, LaGrange Town Judge Michael Hayes has captured the election for Dutchess County Surrogate’s Court judge.

Hayes was ahead of opponent Tom Mansfield at the end of election night and following a full tally of absentee ballots, the lead held.

Mansfield conceded the race in a phone call to Hayes.

“I look forward to serving the people of Dutchess County, and to assuming the unique responsibilities that come with sitting on the Surrogate’s Court bench,” Hayes said. “I will work hard to preserve the tradition of fair and honest judgment that has served as a hallmark of the Dutchess County Surrogate’s Court.”

Details of Judge Hayes’ swearing-in have yet to be announced.
