Big holiday doings in Carmel

CARMEL – Nothing like a cup of piping hot chowder on a chilly afternoon!

Hundreds packed into Cornerstone Park in downtown Carmel Saturday for the Hamlet of Carmel Civic Association’s Annual Chowder Fest held in conjunction with the daylong 24th annual Festival on the Lake celebration.

Holiday shoppers browsed throughout
the bazaars and fairs Saturday

Pumpkin and squash soup were favorites for
the large crowd served by local merchants

Thirteen merchants from across the county provided a wide variety of homemade soups and other snacks which were gobbled up by the attendees.

Favorites included clam chowder, corn chowder, pumpkin and squash soup, several chili delights and even a dish consisting of homemade sausage and meatballs.

The downtown was bustling Saturday when hundreds of shoppers flocked to county seat churches and the Carmel Veterans Hall for a series of holiday bazaars.

The day began at Carmel Fire Department headquarters when Santa visited and helped his elves consisting of firefighters and members of the department prepare pancakes and other breakfast delights.

Programs were also held at the Reed Memorial Library and Carmel High School in addition to a chowder festival later in the day and the gala parade along Gleneida Avenue.
