Young boy killed by ice cream truck in Thompson

TOWN OF THOMPSON – A three-year-old boy was struck and killed by an ice cream truck Thursday evening, according to Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty. The child was riding a tricycle when the tragedy occurred at Birchwood Estates on Sackett Lake Road.

The toddler got caught under a wheel of the ice cream truck and was run over, he said.

Hatzolah Ambulance transported the injured child, identified by neighbors as Shmuel Gellis, to Catskill Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Also at the scene were the Monticello Fire Department and Mobile Medic Ambulance.

The incident is being investigated by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office. The State Police accident reconstruction unit was also on the scene.
