Former prison building to be transformed into brewery, destination location

WARWICK – A building at the former Mid-Orange Correctional Facility in the Town of Warwick, now rebranded as the Warwick Business Park, will be transformed into Warwick Terroir, a brewery, event destination and more.

The owners of the nearby Pine Island Brewery plan to renovate the building for a tasting room with pizza, wedding and event space, brew house with production, cellar room and barrel aging, outdoor beer garden and festival area, and warehousing and distribution center.

Kraftify LLC is seeking a PILOT agreement, sales tax exemption on building materials and waiver of the mortgage filing fee on the $2.7 million project, said Orange County Industrial Development Agency Chief Operating Officer Laurie Villasuso.

“They already have some state incentives because they are re-using an old building; breweries tend to be tourist destinations. That’s one of the things they are banking on in Warwick,” Villasuso said.

Developers say tourism and job creation from the project “will be significant to the local economy.”
