Ellenville woman arrested for welfare fraud

KINGSTON – The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Ellenville woman on felony charges of welfare fraud, grand larceny and two counts of offering a false instrument for filing in connection with an investigation into theft of funds.

That investigation conducted by the county Social Services Special Investigations Unit and the district attorney’s office found that Monique Smalls, 53, did not disclose her complete household income from September 2014 to January 2017, and then again from June 2017 to January 2018.  She filed two applications with the DSS that did not reveal all income and received $5,994 in SNAP benefits to which she was not entitled.
