Carlucci calls on state ed to pay East Ramapo funds mistakenly given to charter schools

SPRING VALLEY – State Senator David Carlucci (D, Nanuet) called on the state Education Department to pay the East Ramapo School District $200,000 it was supposed to receive but was inadvertently distributed to charter schools.

Albany has informed the Spring Valley district that it would pay the money over a two-year period, but that is not good enough, the senator said,

“This is funding that belongs to the students of East Ramapo, a district that I have worked tirelessly for to get as much funding as possible,” Carlucci said. “They are absolutely stretched to the limit. The teachers are doing a great job, but $200,000, that means more teachers, more guidance counselors and it is completely unacceptable that the state Education Department made mistake and that they’re looking to fund East Ramapo over a period of time instead of giving that funding now.”

The Title 11A federal funding provides students from low-income families and minority students with greater access to effective educators.
