Sullivan Sheriff Office facing staff challenge

MONTICELLO – Two members of the Sullivan County sheriff staff may be leaving for new opportunities.  They aren’t going far. They are expected to join the Monticello Police force.

Sheriff Michael Schiff told the County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee on Thursday the exit door may keep swinging.

“I’m very concerned with manpower.  In addition to Monticello, we do have, I think, three or four people on the State Police list.”

Schiff said he plans direct meetings with legislators to discuss staffing issues, as they approach budget season.

Schiff and Undersheriff Eric Chaboty also reported that this summer is far busier than last year, with more activity on the Delaware River.

The casino, and pending waterpark, will generate even more demand on the Sheriff Office, they said.
