Hearings set on utility company response to March winter storms

ALBANY – The State Public Service Commission has scheduled several public statement hearings in the region to receive comment about the preparedness and response of the state’s utility companies during and after the March winter storms.

Between March 2 and March 14 two severe storms caused widespread power outages to more than 590,000 New Yorkers – including hundreds of thousands in the Hudson Valley/Catskills – some for as long as 10 days.

The PSC is investigating the preparedness and response of Central Hudson gas and Electric Corporation, Consolidated Edison Company of New York, New York State Electric and Gas Corporation, and Orange and Rockland Utilities.

Hearing dates:

  • Greene County, Monday, April 16, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Athens Volunteer Fire Department in Athens
  • Columbia County, Tuesday, April 17, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Columbia Greene Community College, Art Center Theater Room 500, Hudson
  • Dutchess County, Monday, April 23, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., Poughkeepsie Town Hall
  • Westchester County, Monday, April 23, 2 p.m. at Larchmont Public Library, and 2 p.m. at Somers Middle School; on Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Pound Ridge Town Hall, and 6 p.m. at The Westchester County Center in White Plains
  • Rockland County, Tuesday, April 24, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., at Ramapo Town Hall in Suffern
  • Sullivan County, Wednesday, April 25, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., at Monticello Firehouse
  • Putnam County, Thursday, April 26, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Putnam County Training and Operations Center in Carmel
