Level 2 sex offender sentenced in sexually motivated burglary, sex assault

WHITE PLAINS – A Mount Vernon man was sentenced in Westchester County Court on Tuesday to 15 years in state prison following his conviction by a jury in June on charges of burglary as a sexually motivated felony, forcible touching and talking.

At about 3 p.m. on October 12, 2016, on a Mount Vernon street, James Brower, 35, accosted a woman who was walking to a store. He made sexually charged statements that placed her in fear that he would subject her to unwanted contact.

When the victim tried to ignore the man and continue on her way, he followed her repeating his sexual advance and slapped her buttocks. She fled to the safety of her home where she reported the assault to her husband.  Brower followed the woman into her home and to the doorway of her bedroom, but fled when he saw her husband, who chased him while calling 911.

Mount Vernon Police responded and apprehended Brower.

In addition to his prison term, Brower was also sentenced to 15 years of post-release supervision and must register as a sex offender when he is released from prison.
