New Dutchess transit coordinator appointed

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Public Works Department has a new public transit director to replace Cynthia Ruiz, who retired recently.

Commissioner Robert Balkind announced John Andoh recently started.

Deputy Commissioner David Whalen said Andoh has an impressive track record in the field of public transit.

“John joins us from Austin, Texas where he was a contract specialist there and responsible for contracted services, very similar to the relationship we have with First Transit here in running our bus service,” Whalen said. “He grew up in northern California, started his career in public transit in northern California and has experiences in Texas, Arizona and Mississippi.”

In his last job in Texas, Andoh was project manager, coordinating three operating contractors, with a total of 419 buses. In Dutchess, the countywide bus system this past summer also picked up the responsibility operating buses in the City of Poughkeepsie.
