Liberty man arrested for stealing dog


VILLAGE OF LIBERTY – A Liberty man was arrested for stealing a family dog as it was secured on a leash in the front yard of a family home in the Village of Liberty.

The 3½-year-old malamute-husky mix was loaded into the suspect’s vehicle before he fled. The dog’s owner attempted to chase the man, but was unable to stop him.

Liberty Village Police locarted the dog and arrested Agron Bitici, 29, of Liberty. He was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, both as misdemeanors, and sent to the Sullivan County Jail.

District Attorney James Farrell asked for $10,000 cash bail or bond. Town Justice Harold Bauman set bail at $2,500.
