Trucker seriously injured in I-84 crash

LAKE CARMEL – A trucker was seriously injured Friday when his box truck rear ended a tractor trailer rig on I-84 in Kent.

State Police investigated the accident that occurred west of the Route 311 interchange in Lake Carmel. Fire and EMS from throughout the region were pressed into action.

It took 45 minutes to extricate the victim.  He was taken by ambulance to a makeshift helipad at Lake Carmel Fire Department headquarters where he was flown to the Westchester Medical Center.

Lake Carmel Fire Department personnel were first to respond and were assisted by members of the Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Kent Fire Department Rescue Squad, Carmel Fire Department, paramedics from the EM STAR Ambulance Company, Kent Police, Putnam Bureau of Emergency Services and a medivac helicopter.  Also assisting at the scene was Putnam Battalion 13 Coordinator Jamie Gagliardo.
