Spring Valley man pleads guilty in road rage death

NEW CITY – A Spring Valley man pled guilty in Rockland County Court to manslaughter in the death of a baby boy, who was being wheeled in a stroller by his mother.

Albert Gomez, 63, admitted that just before 2:50 p.m. on June 26, he ran down a mother and her three children during a road rage incident directed at a taxi on Route 59 in Spring Valley.

According to the charges, Gomez’s car struck the 38-year-old woman, her two daughters, ages 13 and nine, and three-month-old son as they walked on the shoulder of the road. The infant, Mayer Braun, died from his injuries on July 5. His mother and sisters also suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

When sentenced in February 2018, Gomez will receive 1 1/3 to four years in state prison.

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said Gomez “will be held accountable for causing the tragic death of a baby boy who had his entire life before him.
