Man killed by train was Philmont resident

STOCKPORT – The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Tuesday morning as Matthew Harris, 42, of Philmont.

An autopsy determined the cause of death to be multiple injuries from the impact of the train, Sheriff David Bartlett said.

At this time the death does not appear to be suspicious; however, sheriff’s investigators are continuing to look into the incident.

Anyone who may have seen or had contact with Harris between the hours of 9 p.m. on Monday and the early morning hours of Tuesday, is asked to call the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigative Branch at 518-828-4317 or the sheriff’s office dispatch at 518-828-3344.
