Police release name of teen killed crossing Route 17

TOWN OF WALLKILL – State Police released the identity of the girl, who was struck and killed as she walked across Route 17 in the Town of Wallkill on Thursday night.

Hope Vandermark, 15, of Middletown, was struck by a pickup truck as she walked across the westbound lane of highway with a group of other teenagers. She died at the scene. None of the others was reported injured.

Troopers said the truck was driven by a 20-year-old Bloomingburg man who was not charged because investigation revealed he was not impaired, distracted or speeding.

The investigation is ongoing.
