Political newcomer seeks Esopus town supervisor’s post

ESOPUS – Democrat Shannon Harris is running for Esopus town supervisor in a race that will pit her against Republican Ulster County Legislator Carl Belfiglio.

Despite her party affiliation, Harris is taking a non-partisan approach to her candidacy.

“I just don’t believe that there is room for politics at the local level so I am reaching out to all residents and not going to be exclusive,” she said “I think everyone needs to be embraced and engaged at the local level, so I really do believe in having an independent voice.”

Harris said she will also seek the Republican and Conservative lines on the fall ballot.

She lists among her priorities maintaining the integrity of the Hudson River while providing open access to it, growing economic development and business to expand the tax base and encouraging more participation in local government.
