Westchester man killed in Dutchess crash; other driver faces several charges

LAGRANGE – A Yorktown Heights man was killed late Wednesday night when his car crossed into the opposite lane on Noxon Road near Firemen’s Way in LaGrange and struck a pickup.

Jonathan Steere, 26, was was pronounced dead at MidHudson Regional Hospital following the 11 p.m. accident.

Evidence shows Steere was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, Captain John Watterson said.

The driver of the pickup, Santiago Castillo, 38, of Poughkeepsie, and a passenger, Jose Castillo, 49, also of Poughkeepsie, were taken to Vassar Brothers Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Santiago Castillo is unlicensed and had in his possession a forged Pennsylvania driver’s license. He was arrested after being released from the hospital and charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle as a traffic infraction and possession of a forged instrument as a felony.  He was released on an appearance ticket returnable to town court.
