Rockland Marine identified as casualty in KC-130 crash

POMONA – Active duty Marine Owen Lennon, 26, of Pomona has been identified as one of the nine members of the Marine Corps Reserve Det. 49 unit at Stewart Airport to have died in Monday’s crash of a KC-130 aircraft in Mississippi.

Lennon’s loss “reminds us again that freedom is never free,” said Rockland County Executive Edwin Day. “This Marine from Rockland County represented the very best our young people have to offer. He was immensely proud of his service to our nation.”

Day said Rockland “will remember him with a mix of pride and sadness – pride that he died in service to the nation we love and sadness for a young life cut short.”

The county executive said as a father of two sons who have served in the military, including one still on active duty, “I cannot imagine the pain the Lennon family is experiencing.”
