Four area churches awarded New York Sacred Sites grants

NEW YORK – Three churches in Greene County and one in Orange County have been awarded Sacred Sites grants from the New York Landmarks Conservancy.

A $7,000 grant was awarded to St. George’s Episcopal Church in the City of Newburgh. The money will be used to help fund an existing conditions study.

In Greene County, St. Peter’s Church in Spencertown and Windham Hensonville United Methodist Church in Windham were pledged $4,000 and $8,000, respectively, for roof replacement.  Christ Episcopal Church in Greenville was pledged $4,500 toward masonry restoration.

The Conservancy’s Sacred Sites Committee awarded grants totaling $178,500 to 16 religious properties in the state.
